A note from the Principal

Dear HWS families,

Today we had our first fire drill and students practiced evacuating the building. We reviewed the expectations in the morning announcements and teachers gave instruction as well.  These drills were completed with the assistance of the fire department and students did a great job! This first drill is always announced to students and discussed beforehand.  The next drill we typically let teachers know but not the students, and the final drill is a surprise for everyone.  I will keep you posted about additional safety drills as they occur during the year.

Our Open House is coming up soon!  September 14th is our school Open House from 6-7pm.  The curriculum information will be sent home electronically for parents to view on their own.  It may be a video or a slide deck where you receive information about what your child will be learning this year.  If, after watching that you have additional questions, teachers will be here at HWS from 6-7pm for you to pop in and ask a question or to meet the teacher in person if you were not able to attend our ice-cream social.  You can attend for 10 minutes or the full hour – it’s up to you!  Our Specials teachers will be available for questions as well.  We do ask that the children stay at home for this event.

Hope to see you all here at HWS at 7:00 on Monday for our first PTO meeting of the year.  Come meet the board and find out how you can be involved!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Gina Greenwald

Principal

Flag Monument fundraiser

The Hoover Wood School PTO is partnering with the Fox Valley Patriotic Organization and the Batavia Flag Day Committee to raise funds for the construction of a Flag Day Monument in downtown Batavia.

The monument will honor Dr. Bernard J. Cigrand, a Batavia dentist who worked tirelessly his entire life to teach American citizens about the history, value, and importance of the American flag.

The monument will also honor groups who have fought for our flag and who keep our nation safe at home and abroad.

The dedication ceremony will be held on Sunday, October 1 from 2:00-5:00 pm.

The Hoover Wood School PTO is asking students to bring in their coins or dollar bills to contribute to the fundraising efforts.

The fundraising goal for each school is to raise $300 so that their school’s brick paver will be represented as part of the Flag Day Monument.

The brick will be engraved with the school’s name and logo and will be placed with the memorial pavers at the monument.

The statement concludes by thanking everyone who has contributed to the project and expressing hope that many HWS families will attend the dedication ceremony.
