Chorus Wednesday, October 2nd – Fall Picture Day Thursday, October 4th – Hawk Walk A note from the Principal: Dear HWS families, Thank you so much for your attendance last night at our Open House! Students were very excited to show their parents around the building, and this morning we chose 10 students from our Passport Raffle to pick a prize. Today, we practiced our Severe Weather Drill where students went to their designated place of safety in the building. We explained that this is just like at home when the sirens go off and families seek shelter in basements or interior rooms. It’s important to practice at school so that we can be prepared for a severe weather situation. I have asked the Batavia Police Department to help us with our dismissal process so you may see some increased presence in our parking areas. When leaving our parking lot after school, it is a designated Right Turn Only, and not everyone is adhering to that rule. When parents don’t follow this rule, it causes confusion and delay, which in turn ends up congesting the pickup line. I am hopeful that the police presence will help ensure that traffic laws are being followed so that our dismissal is safe and efficient. Over the next two weeks, we will begin our Fall Benchmark assessments for academic and social emotional competencies. As always, it is important that students come to school well rested and with a fully charged Chromebook. We will utilize Aimsweb benchmark, NWEA MAP Assessments, and Panorama; which is an educational platform that provides a plethora of surveys to assess a wide range of topics including student emotional competencies. We will focus on the following areas: Perseverance / Self-Management / Social Awareness / Emotion Regulation / Sense of Belonging. Students in grades 3-5 will self-assess and students K-5 will have teacher perception ratings. This information will be reviewed to help guide instructional strategies and identify students for remediation or extension opportunities (Strategic Plan Priority 1.1 & 2.3). On the district assessment webpage, you will find detailed information about the specific assessments your child will be taking this year, including when each assessment will be administered throughout the year and its objectives. Have a wonderful weekend! Sincerely, Gina Greenwald Principal A note from the Art teacher If you are a 3rd-5th Grader who would loves art, likes to get your creative problem-solving skills flowing and enjoy some extra-special time for creating art, then art club is for you!
