Upcoming Dates: Thursday, September 12 – 6:00-7:30pm HWS Open House Wednesday, October 2nd – Fall Picture Day A note from the Principal: Dear HWS families, Wow! What a great first week! I have been so impressed with how well the students are doing this year. We have established routines in the lunchroom already, they have navigated dismissal, and have been busy and working in their classrooms! I am so proud of how well they have all adjusted to coming back to school. Now of course, there are some tired eyes and droopy heads by the end of the day, but I think we are all adjusting to having new schedules. Just a reminder that the diamond lane is for car pick up and the front parking lot is for our buses. Also, please keep the dogs at home or off of school property. The chaos of all the students can get overwhelming for the dog and some of our students are fearful or allergic. I would hate to see an accidental biting occur for any of our students. This week we have been busy teaching students expectations. Across the district, we utilize CHAMPS. CHAMPS is a proactive classroom management framework that helps teachers ensure students learn effectively and lessons run smoothly. It stands for Conversation, Help, Activity, Movement, Participation, and Success. Teachers use CHAMPS to address these elements before starting activities to communicate their expectations for each activity and transition. For example, teachers might clarify how and when students can talk to each other during an activity, or how students can get their attention and have questions answered (Strategic Plan Priority 2: Foster Inclusion & Belonging). We utilized this strategy last year as well but we refresh every year. I sincerely hope your child has had a great first few days of school. Thank you for your partnership as we get the school year rolling! Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful weekend! Sincerely, Gina Greenwald Principal A note from the PE teacher: All students in 1st-5th grade need to have a gently used pair of gym shoes left at school that they change into for PE class. This is very important for student safety. Gym shoes that are worn outside bring in dirt that makes the gym floor slippery and unsafe. Also, sandals, boots and crocs cannot be worn in PE class. Thanks for your understanding and help with this. Mr. Fink A note from the PTO The mum sale is BACK this year! Be on the lookout for a website to order next week. Pick up from Hoover Wood will be on Wednesday September 18th after school from 3:30-5:30. We’re interested in you becoming a room parent for your child’s classroom. As a room parent you will be participating in assisting your respective teacher throughout the year with coordinating events and activities. Please sign up on the link via Membership Toolkit.
