Daisy RM133 Friday, May 3 – 8:00am 4th & 5th gr Chorus (last one) Thursday, May 16 – 5:00pm-7:00pm HWS Spring Fling Last Full Day of School – May 24, 2024 A note from the Principal: Dear HWS families, We had one of our favorite assemblies today, the Wheel of Wisdom! This is a game show type assembly that allows for lots of student participation and prizes! The kids love it and it has turned into an annual tradition here at HWS. Thank you to the PTO for helping to sponsor our school assemblies. Thank you to the 5th graders for an awesome Wax Museum. They researched a person they were interested in, found the important facts, and dressed like the character. They had to present to students and parents this week and while some were nervous, they did a great job! Next week we have our last big test of the year with our final administration of MAP testing. Your child’s teacher will share their individual schedules. We use this final data to see how much students have grown over the course of the year and to make decisions about which students may need additional support right at the beginning of next year. Next week we also have Bike to School day on Wednesday, May 8th. We encourage all students who are able to bike to school that day and enjoy some exercise and fresh air before starting their day. We will have some bike helmets to give away and, thanks to our PTO and Prairie Path Cycles, we will also be raffling off 2 bikes to students! How nice that it aligns perfectly with our Wellness Wednesday! One more thing to add to your calendars is our annual Spring Fling on May 16th from 5:00-7:00 pm. This event celebrates the end of the school year and we provide dinner and entertainment for all. The dinner is Rosati’s chicken and pasta and it is free to our students and their families. You may want to bring some cash for the ice-cream truck that will be on the blacktop. Don’t forget to bring your bag chairs to set up on the blacktop so you can comfortably relax outside. Feel free to enjoy dinner outside on a blanket as well. All children must be accompanied by a parent and immediate family members only. Keep your fingers crossed for nice weather! On Friday May 10th, these dances will be recorded to be shared with our HWS families at a later date. To make our recording look even more professional, we ask that all students wear their HAWK WALK SHIRTS on FRIDAY MAY 10TH OR a t-shirt that is the same color of their grade level’s hawk walk shirt from the fall. This event will NOT have an invited audience, but the students WILL be performing for each other. We raised over $1,370 in change! The winning grade level was 5th grade, and they have voted to donate the money to Make a Wish. They will celebrate with a class picnic on May 23. Second grade’s total was very close to the winning amount, so they will also have a class picnic later this month (date TBD).
