A note from the Principal:

Dear HWS Families,

Welcome back from Spring Break!  Hopefully, your family has readjusted to being back at school and getting acclimated to routines.  It’s hard to believe we are already in the final stretch of the school year!

Thank you to the PTO for organizing our Science Night!  We had many students come out to share their experiments and listen to Scott Green present, “Engineering the Impossible.”

Next week the students will be off from school on Friday for an Institute Day.  Teachers will be enhancing their understanding of SeeSaw and Formative Assessments.  We will also have some time for vertical articulation, which allows teachers to discuss the curriculum with the next grade level and to share strengths and challenges with the receiving grade level.

Speaking of next year, as in the past, we welcome any information that you would like to provide about your students in order to assist us in making the best possible placement.  This is completely optional, and of course we team with their current teacher in making these decisions. These requests should be based on the following:

  • Your child’s talents and needs
  • The type of classroom environment that has been or will be most beneficial to your child
  • Your child’s personality and learning style

Due to the many unknowns, please share only the type of environment needed, and not specific teacher names.   Teachers may be moving grade levels again as section sizes ebb and flow. We really try to focus on the best learning situation for each individual student, as it benefits all of us if the child has a great year of learning.  These letters need to be received by May 19th to receive consideration.  Please remember that a request is not a guarantee of placement.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Gina Greenwald

Principal

Spring into Success: The Power of Showing Up On Time

As the spring sunshine becomes more consistent and the mornings feel a little more relaxed, it can be tempting to slow down the start of the day. But arriving on time to school remains one of the most important ways to set students up for success.

Every minute counts! Just 10 minutes of missed time each day adds up to nearly an hour per week and over 1.5 weeks of instructional time per year. Looking for more information about attendance in BPS101? Visit our updated BPS101 Attendance webpage to learn more.

We will continue with weekly Messengers on Fridays throughout the school year. All school messengers can also be found on our News Wall.

Please be sure to check out the Backpack Mail View the latest edition of Backpack Mail > link that is attached to The District Weekly BPS messengers. Good community events are listed!
