A note from the Principal:

Dear HWS Families,

We have finally completed IAR testing for grades 3-5. Despite many students being out sick, we were able to get most everyone tested. These scores don’t come back to the school until next year and are also reflected on our school report card from the state.

Have you signed up for Trivia Night yet?  It is hosted by our PTO and is one of our biggest fundraisers.  Don’t have a team?  No worries, they will set up teams for you if needed.  It is a fun evening and a great way to meet other parents from HWS.

We have 2 more weeks until Spring Break and once again, I will need to make a trip to Goodwill to drop off all of the Lost and Found.  We have many coats, jackets, hats, etc.  Have your child search through the stacks by March 27th.  Feel free to stop by yourself to make a more thorough search.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Gina Greenwald

Principal

A note from the PE Teacher:

As a school, we had 70 students raise donations for the American Heart Association.  We raised $5094 as a school!  9 students completed Finn’s Mission and 21 students learned the steps for hands-only CPR.  Thank you so much for donating to this great cause!  Prizes and gifts will come in 4-6 weeks for those who raised donations.  As a special thank you, we will be having a fun bonus Tae Kwon Do demonstration team performance in April.

A reminder:

The last day to order a 24-25 HWS yearbook is March 28th!

Additional information:

Dear BPS 101 Families,

We are reaching out to remind you about the 5Essentials student survey (Grades 4-12) that will be administered at your student’s school. This is the thirteenth year the Illinois State Board of Education will implement this survey across the state. This survey is based on 20 years of research at the University of Chicago. It asks students about their experiences in school, giving school leaders critical student input to help develop school improvement plans.

Students’ identities will be completely confidential. Teachers or administrators will never see individual responses to survey questions and will only receive aggregated information, such as the total percentage of students who agree homework assignments help them learn the course material.

Please be aware that under the Protection of Pupil Rights Act. 20 U.S.C. Section 1232(c) (1) (A), you have the right to review a copy of the questions asked of your student(s). Survey questions can be found on the UChicago Impact Support Center (https://impactsurveyshelp.force.com/s/article/illinois-5essentials-survey-questions).

Kindergarten sign up!

Have a neighbor, family member, yourself or friend who has a student that will be turning five by September 1, 2025, that they are considering entering kindergarten at a BPS101 elementary school for the 2025-2026 school year?  Batavia Public School District 101 strongly encourages families of incoming kindergarten students to begin the enrollment process. We are looking for as many registrations entered before we leave for Spring Break. All families who complete the registration process before Spring Break will be cordially invited to an April Kinder Preview event, more information to come.  Visit our website to register: bps101.net/kindergarten or on Facebook.  Knowing how many new students we will be receiving early greatly assists in determining the number of sections we will require.

We will continue with weekly Messengers on Fridays throughout the school year. All school messengers can also be found on our News Wall.

Please be sure to check out the Backpack Mail View the latest edition of Backpack Mail > link that is attached to The District Weekly BPS messengers. Good community events are listed!
