A note from the LRC:

     Ozzie’s Reading Club is Back!

All HWS students are encouraged to participate in the Kane County Cougars Reading Club for 2024.  Ozzie’s Reading Club challenges students in grades K-5 to read 60 minutes each week, over the course of 8 weeks, for a total of 480 minutes.   That’s only 12 minutes a day!  All students who complete the reading challenge will earn a free ticket to a ballgame (05/18/24 or 05/19/24), along with a hot dog, drink and a t-shirt.   Information and reading logs were sent home with students in Friday folders on 02/09/24.  Reading began on 02/11/24 and will conclude 04/06/24.  Let’s go, readers!

The Battle of the Books 2024 is underway!

Preliminary battles will be held during the first week of March during school hours; exact dates to be determined.  The winning team will represent HWS at the district battle, which will take place at the Batavia Public Library on March 18th at 7:00 pm.

Details can be found on the HWS LRC Website.  Good Luck Hawks!

   The Celebration Books Program

The HWS Celebration Books program provides students an opportunity to donate a book to the LRC for birthdays, special occasions and in honor or memory of a loved one.  Thank you to the following students who donated a book to the LRC in celebration of their February birthdays and June/July half-birthdays, too!   Your generous donation helps our LRC collection grow:

Kaitlyn J. (4Zi), Emily M. (KH), Olivia T. (KH), Mirren M. (3A), Haddee R. (2C), Owen S. (2C), Simone S. (5W), Harper C. (KH), Sedra A. (2Ru) and Saden A. (2Ru).

A note from the PE Teacher:

Meet Finn, our National Heart Hero!

We have had the opportunity to follow Finn and his special heart saving story since he was just a baby! If it’s been a minute since you’ve learned about the human body and you need a reminder, the healthy human heart has 4 chambers in it, Finn’s was formed with zero! Since he was a baby, he’s had 18 surgeries to keep his heart working for him, and has survived through one stroke. We invite you to share in our mission to create a legacy of lifesavers and complete Finn’s Mission on your KHC Page!

Take 2 minutes together as a Family to learn hands only CPR, or to help spot the signs of a stroke! What kind of impact do you think we can have on our school community if everyone, no matter their age, knew what to do in an emergency?
