A note from the Principal:

Dear HWS Families,

Today was our annual Wheel of Wisdom assembly, which is always a highlight!  There were lots of opportunities for student participation and some healthy competition!

Next week on Wednesday we have our Bike to School Day!  If you are able, hop on your bike and join your child on a ride to school to get your day started.  Starting the day with fresh air and exercise does a body good.  Later that day, we will raffle off two bikes.  Thank you so much to the PTO and Prairie Path Cycles for supporting this event.

An important reminder:  We invite you to write a short “pump-up” letter to your child as we head into our final MAP testing of the year. This is a great opportunity to celebrate their learning, remind them how proud you are, and let them know they’re more than ready for these final challenges. Your words of encouragement can give them the confidence boost they need! More details will be shared by your child’s teacher soon. While it may be tough to keep this a surprise, please don’t share the letter with your child ahead of time—we want it to be a special moment.  Don’t let your child be left out!

Spring Fling is coming! ! Mark your calendars for May 15th from 5-7pm.  This event celebrates the end of the school year, and we will provide dinner and fun for all.   There is a flier located in the messenger, and just a reminder that parents must accompany their child to the event.

May 12th begins our end of the year countdown for staff and students.  This year our theme is LAST DANCE!

A note from Student Council:

Thank you to everyone who supported our spring fundraisers! The Super Hero Day for Lurie Children’s raised just over $350, and the Penny Wars challenge raised approximately $1,353! The Kindergarteners won the challenge, and they voted to donate the funds to the World Wildlife Fund. They will celebrate with a picnic on May 14, and more details will be shared with parents of kindergarten students.

A note from the Art Teacher:

Please, join us on May 15th for an evening of celebrating the amazing artwork done by our students here at HWS during Spring Fling!!!

On Friday, May 9th, Hoover-Wood students will participate in the Hoover-Wood School Dance Festival.  Students have been working on learning these dances during their Music/PE time.  Parents are invited to this event and we plan to record and send it home digitally at a later date.  The schedule for the day is as follows:

9:30-10:30: Kindergarten/1st

11:00-12:00: 4th/5th

1:20-2:20: 2nd/3rd

Students are to  wear their hawk walk shirt from this year, or a shirt that is mostly the same color.

Thank you for your support and feel free to contact us with any questions.

Spring into Success: The Power of Showing Up On Time

As the spring sunshine becomes more consistent and the mornings feel a little more relaxed, it can be tempting to slow down the start of the day. But arriving on time to school remains one of the most important ways to set students up for success.

Every minute counts! Just 10 minutes of missed time each day adds up to nearly an hour per week and over 1.5 weeks of instructional time per year. Looking for more information about attendance in BPS101? Visit our updated BPS101 Attendance webpage to learn more. HWS Attendance Line: (630) 937-8303

We will continue with weekly Messengers on Fridays throughout the school year. All school messengers can also be found on our News Wall.
