A note from the Principal:

Dear HWS Families,

It’s been a busy and exciting week at HWS! We had our CHAMPS walkthroughs, where staff visited classrooms to assess the implementation of our district’s CHAMPS program. We’re pleased to report that staff have increased positive interactions with students, and students were on-task the majority of the time. Great job to both our staff and students!

Our teams also visited classrooms to provide feedback on student collaboration. All year, students have been working hard on how to truly collaborate—focusing on active listening, asking follow-up questions, and helping one another deepen their understanding of the material.

On Thursday, we celebrated with a Tae Kwon Do assembly as a reward for our amazing participation in Jump Rope for Heart. Students were thrilled to see the demo team in action, especially since one of our own students had the chance to showcase his skills! Don’t worry—we made sure to emphasize that these routines were performed by trained students and shouldn’t be attempted at home.

While we wish we could say that testing season is over, there’s still a bit more ahead. Next week, students will take the final round of AIMS testing, followed by the last MAP assessment. These assessments help us evaluate our instructional practices and identify students who may benefit from early interventions next year.

As we head into this final stretch, we’re inviting you to write a short “pump-up” letter to your child. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate their learning, remind them how proud you are, and let them know they’re more than ready for these final challenges. Your words of encouragement can give them the confidence boost they need! More details will be shared by your child’s teacher soon. While it may be tough to keep this a surprise, please don’t share the letter with your child ahead of time—we want it to be a special moment.

Thank you for being our partners in lifting up your amazing kids!

Sincerely,

Gina Greenwald

Principal
