A note from the Principal:

Dear HWS Families,

To improve the efficiency of our diamond lane procedures, we are updating dismissal routines for our students. As we’ve communicated many times before, the diamond lane works best when adults remain in their vehicles, using it as a drive-thru system: drive up, we assist your child into the car, and you drive off. It only takes about 10 minutes each day.

However, many parents have been parking and walking over to gather by the crosswalk area. To address this, starting Monday, students will exit through a door at the back of the school instead of Door N5 except for kindergarten students.  They will continue to exit out of door N5.

Here’s how it will work:

  • Students whose parents park and exit their vehicles to meet them will be directed to stand by the crosswalk area where you currently gather. Your child will walk to you.
  • Students staying in the diamond lane will wait toward the end of the lane to easily enter their cars.
  • Walkers will follow the sidewalk on the far side near the houses.

We will pilot this new process on Monday and Tuesday next week, after which our School Leadership Team will review its effectiveness. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to make dismissal safer and more efficient for everyone!

A final reminder that Lost and Found items will be emptied out on Tuesday, November 26th.  Feel free to come in and look through the items.

Fall is in full swing, and winter is right around the corner, bringing holiday celebrations, family gatherings, colder temps, and…the dreaded spike in illnesses. While it may be more tempting to keep your child out of school for vacations or to avoid exposure to others, a regular attendance routine is important for your child’s well-being, learning, and long-term success. Please check out the following resources for some tips to keep your child healthy and avoid unnecessary absences from school:

We do have school Monday and Tuesday next week!

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Gina Greenwald

A note from the PTO:

Holiday Shop Time!

The shop will be open for student shopping:

Tuesday, Dec. 3 & Wednesday, Dec. 4: 9:30am – 3:30pm
Thursday, Dec. 5: 9:00am – 11:00am

The Holiday Shop is a much-loved tradition and a fun way for students to shop for family and friends.  Below is a preview link so you and your student can create a shopping list, or just send them with a budget and let them surprise you!

The Holiday Shop is run entirely by volunteers.  This year we need multiple volunteers for 2-hour shifts to help students stay on time, manage budgets, wrap gifts, restock shelves, and make the experience fun!  Please click on the link and sign up for any available time slot(s).

For questions, contact Amanda NelsonDowns at (630) 460-1853 or Deena Vargocko at (630) 456-1696.

Thank you for your support!
